Promenade des Anglais, 12 April 2025

Fifteen snaps taken while out and about the past week. Above was on the Promenade des Anglais yesterday on what was a pleasantly cloudy and chill early evening.

The Nice Jazz Fest line-up was announced in recent days, set for 24-27 July, with 28 bands -four more than last year- again at Massena Square and the Theatre du Verdure. Website.

Marine Le Pen has had a rough few weeks. I liked the juxtaposition of the images of these three women in this newsstand arrangement: Lee Miller (the subject of this iconic portrait by Man Ray), existentialist philosopher Simone de Beauvoir and Le Pen, who is presently battling to maintain her political existence.

‘Marie: dreams in prison’. This sticker was stuck on the ‘Hommage aux français d’Afrique du Nord de toutes confessions’, a monument dedicated to the French of North Africa.

Murals are beginning to appear in the lead-in to the United Nations Ocean Conference that Nice will host from 9-13 June.

Printemps des Migrations: a spring festival to bookmark for next year.

Some mid-April offerings at the Liberation Market this weekend, and for the cost-curious, the current prices. The produce in the first three images is organic; the fourth is not.

This pencil asparagus is similar in look and texture to the wild asparagus we regularly found in Slovenia and northern Croatia (Istra and Kvarner), but slightly thicker and stringier. The saleswoman confirmed it wasn’t wild, thus the relatively lower price.

This is BobRamsak.com, a public notebook by Bob Ramsak.

I’m a long-time journalist, photographer and researcher driven by passions for environmental, social and refugee justice. I’ve visited 62 countries and write something and make pictures (almost) every day. This site is a notebook and photolog where I track and (sometimes) comment on those interests, journal my travels and log my current obsessions. At the moment the most dominant one is my renewed passion for birding and bird photography.

This site primarily serves as a garden for my memories and experiences, which I hope visitors will find useful or of interest. If you find something helpful here, or have a thought or insight to add, please leave a comment or drop me a line to let me know. I’ll be delighted to make your acquaintance.
