This is a recent snap of a male Eurasian Blackcap that I added to my small (but growing!) Eurasian Blackcap gallery today.
We crossed paths at the Jardin Alsace Lorraine Park during a midday break one month ago. In this shot I really like how his colors are nearly identical to the branches he’s resting on.
My bird galleries are progressing slowly, but surely, today numbering 51. I’m off and away next week so if the weather cooperates –i.e. rains on our intended skiing parade– I’ll make some time to up that number a bit more.

Today’s Pic du Jour, the site’s 32nd straight, was snapped in Nice on 6 January 2026.

What a lovely shot of what for me is quite an elusive bird but we hear these ones all the time near our home in Spain. Great voices!
I really like watching them. They’re common in most nearby municipal parks so I never have to go very far.
