Heroes of the Planet, Nice

Here are a few shots from ‘Heroes of the Planet’, an exhibit by Paris Match photographers chronicling conservation efforts and the climate crisis, that was on display at the gazebo exhibition space on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice in fall and winter of 2022.

The best public art involves and invites visitors to interact with it even if it’s just a part of a greater background. Here it acts as a strong reminder that the triple planetary crisis –climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss– is but a quick glance way.

This first one caught my eye.

In 2013 I spent about a week in the San Blas Islands, a Panamanian archipelago of 365 islands and cays, 49 of which are inhabited. Most sit at less than 50cm above sea level, and most, due to sea level rise driven by man-made climate change, will be rendered uninhabitable before the end of this century. Most will also be under water.

The Paris Match story about the exhibition is here. Six more images below.
