I was asked recently about the backstory of this image, which has sat at the top of the sidebar bar for the past few months. The headline above pretty much summarizes all there there is to say about the only time I spent a few minutes stalking a mannequin transporter through the streets of a national capital.
This isn’t a scene you happen upon often, yet the confident and at-ease way the transporter carried himself renders it as a most common everyday kind of moment.
In this case the image also represents ‘moving in’ — bringing photos, notes and previously-published blog posts and articles from the past two-and-half-decades here to what I hope will be a more permanent home.
Photo snapped in Quite, Ecuador, on 29 May 2013. I hope all five of them are doing well.

I had a ‘Pic du Jour’ exercise on a previous blog (one that’s no longer being updated and whose URL has long since been highjacked) that had a simple goal: publishing at least one photo with a bit of text each day.
I managed two fairly productive streaks, the longest 1,304 days – just over three-and-a-half years. I tried re-kick starting that here a few times over the past few months to no avail, so decided to give it another go with the new year. Stating it publicly will likely jinx the effort, but here we go.
