Chateau Vannieres Bandol Blanc 2022 was our favourite wine discovery of 2023. Discovered over dinner at Le Pied de Nez in the hilltop village of Le Castellet in Bandol, on Barbara’s birthday – so that full context certainly helped.
“Where can we find this?” we asked.
The waiter pointed out the window and over the dark sloping ridge. “Just down there,” he said.
He was pointing to La Cadière-d’Azur, the neighboring village about six kilometers and a 15-minute drive away, just to the otherside of the A50. We went in search of the next afternoon but the doors were shuttered. A quick call easily convinced winemaker Eric Boisseaux to come home and pack up a case of six to go. My only regret is that we didn’t ask him to wrap up two cases.

Thie wine: Dried apricots, pineapple, honey and citrus on the nose and palate, great length and harmony. Absolutely delightful. Winemaker’s notes for the 2023 are here.
The winery and its setting are stunning, even on a grey fall day. A few more snaps below.

Visted 7 November 2023.
